The insurance market in Poland

The insurance market is one of the fastest sectors in the Polish financial market. The total value of the market in 2010, in terms of gross premiums, amounted to PLN 53.6 bn, while the average annual rate of growth between 2005 and 2010 came to 11.9%. In 2010 the gross premiums received by the insurance companies increased by PLN 2.8 bn, which reflects a year-on-year growth rate of 5.4% and reflected an improvement in conditions on the financial markets.

The Polish insurance market is divided into two areas:

Life insurance has a higher growth rate and greater volatility. Its share of the total insurance market increased from 49.8% in 2005 to 58.5% in 2010. The gross premiums generated by the personal and property insurance segment in 2010 amounted to PLN 22.2 bn, PLN 9.1 bn less than in the life insurance segment.
